Connecting people
At CCO, we are committed to connecting with communities and schools, especially during these very trying times for us all. Never has the Arts felt more important as a way to bring people together.
Since 2012, our Artistic Director John Savournin has worked with the Concordia Foundation each year as their Education Manager, creating and facilitating a production and complementing workshop series, designed specifically for young audiences either at Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 level. In the last 3 years, we have also collaborated on these projects as a company, and are delighted to announce that we are taking on the projects from 2021, as Concordia closes its doors. Read on to find out more.
During lockdown, we have also created our special CCO at Home series - with online singing workshops, craft videos and our DIAL-A-SONG series.
We have also collaborated with the Da Capo Foundation's Saturday Centre to deliver workshops specific to our main stage productions in previous years, and will continue to create opportunities to work together.

Young Audiences Projects |
In recent years, we have collaborated with the Concordia Foundation to create new productions and workshops designed specifically for young audiences.
Working with 14 London schools, each project focusses important social/cultural world events, an important historical event that ties into the curriculum, or a specific operatic work. Our most recent project, "The Man in the Moon: There's no Planet B", focussed on climate change and recycling, and how we all need "to do our bit and do it a lot". Before attending a special performance in central London, the classes from a specific key stage in each school are treated to 3 workshops that focus on music, drama and arts & crafts. They learn songs that they will sing as part of the final performance, learn about stagecraft and write their own scripts. They also make a 'prop' that is important to the story, to use during the final performance. We are delighted to announce that we are taking on the 'Young Audience' projects from Autumn 2021, having developed a four year expansion plan with Concordia's support, which will lead to working with 40 schools each year. |
CCO at homeDial a song |
While theatres remain closed, we feel it is so important to find ways for everyone to stay connected.
Furthermore, so many of you have been so generous during this challenging time with donations and purchases in our online shop, every penny of which has gone towards our Help CCO Fund. As a way of saying thank you, our artists and team members have put their heads together to create some fun, informative, and in some cases interactive online resources for you to get involved with, drawing on their skills, side hustles and hobbies. Each resource is made especially for you by one of our artists or team members, including Cooking at home, online choral workshops, and even an introduction to Reflexology! We know that so many are alone, missing other people and music at this time, and we’ve been looking for ways to help. So we’ve come up with Dial-a-song.
Write to us via the link below to arrange for one of our singers to call you, or someone you care about, who misses the sound of singing, or just a bit of human connection, for a 5-10 minute chat, and to sing a song or aria. The call can be on the phone or with Zoom, and if there’s a particular song you’d like to here, we’ll do our best to arrange that for you. It’s a pay what you can service (and that includes nothing). All proceeds with go into our fund to support our artists and teams through this time. |
