The Barber of Seville
By Rossini, with a new English version by David Eaton
Commissioned by the Iford Arts Festival
June 21, 23, 24, 27, 28, 30, July 1 2017
We were delighted to return to the Iford Arts Festival in the summer of 2017 to present a brand new production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville, transported to the Wild West, in a wickedly inventive Charles Court Opera twist, sung in English, in a new sparkling translation by David Eaton.
Rossini’s incomparable score and witty musical illustration of every character and turn of the story cannot fail to exhilarate. Whether furtive or frenzied, restrained or reckless The Barber of Seville truly is comedy in music with every nuance exploited. This bright and breezy new production was directed by the company’s Artistic Director, John Savournin, and David Eaton conducted the Charles Court Opera Chamber Orchestra.
"The witty new Charles Court Opera production of Gioachino Rossini’s Barber of Seville, commissioned by Iford Arts, is nothing short of inspired... sheer magic... As my guest (also a tenor) observed, this is what opera is all about."
The Arbuturian
"...the audience laughed and laughed... original, clever idea and beautifully sung... ingenious... the company brings it off brilliantly...I hope you enjoy it as much as I did."
